🏳️⚧ Happy Transgender Flag Day! 🏳️⚧
🏳️⚧ Twenty-six (26) years ago, on August 19, 1999, U.S. Navy veteran and trans rights activist Monica Helms debuted the trans pride flag.
🏳️⚧ “The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional color for baby boys. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional color for baby girls. The stripe in the middle is white, for those who are transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender."
🏳️⚧ Monica donated the original Transgender Pride Flag to the Smithsonian Museum at the first ceremony honoring the addition of a collection of LGBT historical items eleven (11) years ago, on August 19, 2014.
🏳️⚧ The display has yet to be opened to the general public.
